A probiotic combo raised levels of three beneficial gut bacteria in regular drinkers over 8 weeks — but the study tested two strains together, so LRa05's solo role is unclear.

This is one of the first controlled trials on this specific strain pairing, so while the gut-microbiome shift is promising, it's too early to assume LRa05 alone or in other contexts would produce the same effect.

In a randomized trial of 112 adults who drank alcohol regularly, eight weeks of a daily 20-billion-CFU blend of Lactobacillus rhamnosus LRa05 and Bifidobacterium lactis BLa80 helped preserve gut microbiota diversity and boosted levels of beneficial bacteria like Blautia and Faecalibacterium. The same supplement also improved markers of gut fermentation (higher short-chain fatty acids) and lowered uric acid — but because both strains were taken together, we can't credit LRa05 individually.

Where this fits in the evidence

This is among the first studies we've indexed on Lactobacillus rhamnosus LRa05 for Increased Beneficial Bacteria Levels — treat it as an early signal until more research accumulates.
