Big effect

Yacon root cut BMI by a large margin in a meta-analysis (SMD –0.81) – but the evidence comes from low-quality trials.

This suggests yacon root may help with weight control, but because the underlying studies had notable limitations and this is one of the first meta-analyses on the topic, the effect should be viewed as promising, not proven.

A meta-analysis pooling 12 clinical trials found that yacon root significantly lowered BMI, with a large effect size of –0.81 standard deviations. Participants also had more frequent bowel movements and increased fiber intake. However, the trials were of limited quality, so these results need confirmation in better-designed studies.
