Mucositis

Mucositis is the painful inflammation and ulceration of the mucous membranes lining the digestive tract, commonly occurring as a side effect of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in cancer treatment. When it affects the mouth, it is specifically referred to as oral mucositis, which is a frequent and debilitating complication for cancer patients.
