Geranium

Safety profile

3 studies reporting safety data

Across 3 clinical studies, no specific adverse events were quantitatively reported for geranium (Pelargonium sidoides). One study found no significant difference in overall adverse event rates compared to placebo (RR, 1.06; 95% CI, 0.42-2.66; P = .9). Two additional studies described geranium as generally well tolerated, with one noting that adverse events were more common with geranium but none were serious.

Caveats: Evidence is limited to studies on respiratory tract infections; long-term safety and safety in other populations not established. Studies were powered for efficacy, not safety, so rare adverse events may not be detected.
