Whey protein supplementation had no effect on HDL-cholesterol concentration but did elicit a reduction in LDL-cholesterol in individuals aged <50 years (P < 0.01) and when combined with exercise (MD: -5.38, 95 % confidence interval (95 % CI): -8.87 to -1.88, I2 = 0 %, P < 0.01).
