Exploring Gut Health Solutions for Persistent Stomach Issues and Skin Problems
A user discusses their persistent stomach attacks and skin problems despite a healthy diet. The assistant suggests considering probiotics, digestive enzymes, and other supplements to support gut health. For serious symptoms, consulting a healthcare professional is highly recommended.
Health/Gut Problems
I have what I consider a very healthy diet. I eat only whole foods including a lot of eggs, potatoes, sweet potatoes, chicken, beef, veggies, rice, and olive oil. Really not much else aside from those things. I also try and include fermented foods like Kimchi and sauerkraut. I eat zero dairy as it very negatively effects my stomach and gives me horrible stomach aches and induced vomiting. I tend to eat very large meals with notably high levels of fat (I use a lot of olive oil in my cooking). I am constantly trying to gain weight as I workout a lot and want to gain muscle. I have had stomach problems most of my life and I certainly have a sensitive stomach.
Over the past 2 years I have had these stomach attacks about 4 times in which I eat a large meal and either soon after or many hours after I start vomiting and cannot stop. They last all night, are very painful, and are accompanied by diarrhea. My stomach is wrecked for the next 2-3 days and even water is hard to keep down. I believed they were stomach viruses at first, but it seems too often for that to be the truth. I also notably have had smaller attacks where I just throw up once or twice then have a stomach ache for a little.I also thought I would mention that I have skin problems as well including reoccurring staph infections and Acne.
I would just love insight on this and if anyone has had similar experiences.
I'm sorry to hear about the health and gut issues you're experiencing. While I can't provide medical advice or diagnose health conditions, I can offer some insights into supplements that are often considered for supporting gut health, which might be relevant given your symptoms.
-
Probiotics: Probiotics can help maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria, which is crucial for digestion and overall gut health1. If you are already consuming fermented foods like kimchi and sauerkraut, you are getting some probiotics, but a high-quality supplement might provide a more concentrated dose.
-
Digestive Enzymes: Supplements containing digestive enzymes can help break down food more efficiently, potentially reducing symptoms of indigestion and bloating, especially after large meals.
-
Glutamine: This amino acid is known for its role in intestinal health. It supports the integrity of the gut lining and can be beneficial for those with sensitive digestive systems.
-
Peppermint Oil: Enteric-coated peppermint oil is sometimes used to alleviate symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and improve overall digestive comfort.
-
Zinc Carnosine: This supplement is often used to support the mucosal lining of the stomach, and it might be helpful for addressing stomach discomfort.
While these supplements might aid in supporting gut health, it's crucial to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, especially given the complexity of your symptoms. Additionally, since your symptoms seem quite severe and recurring, seeking advice from a healthcare professional specializing in gastroenterology would be advisable.
