Addressing Insomnia and Vitamin Imbalances After B12 Supplementation
Explore the potential link between insomnia and vitamin supplementation, particularly after B12 intake. Discuss options such as B-Complex and multivitamins to restore balance, considering conditions like gastroparesis. Consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
think i depleted my other vitamins? insomnia has returned, need advice.
i've been doing this for about 4 months now. most of my symptoms are gone but my doctor wants me to continue taking the b12. the thing is, i've noticed that my insomnia has come back, my brain fog is also back, and my lack of appetite is returning. but this doesn't feel like wake up symptoms, i just feel super off after having good sleep and everything. i got my lab work done and iron/folate/b12 were great, my anemia gone. i had a good period where my sleep was good, but now i feel imbalanced in a way.
should i stop b12 and take a b complex? or maybe just a multivitamin until i feel better? i don't do well with megadoses and need a multivitamin that is easy to digest as i have gastroparesis. (gastroparesis does cause appetite loss, but it's more pronounced than usual now).
Your experience with insomnia, brain fog, and appetite issues might be related to your vitamin supplementation. Vitamin B12 is essential, but excessive supplementation can sometimes result in side effects, including insomnia and anxiety12.
Given your situation, especially since your B12, iron, and folate levels are good, it might be worth considering adjusting your supplement regimen. Here are a few considerations:
-
B-Complex Vitamins: While B12 alone is crucial, a B-Complex supplement includes other B vitamins like B6, which might have different effects on your sleep and mental clarity3. Balancing all B vitamins may help with overall well-being.
-
Multivitamin: Considering a gentle multivitamin might provide broader support without overwhelming your system, especially as you mention having gastroparesis. Multivitamins typically have balanced doses that are less likely to cause adverse effects.
Before making any changes, it's important to discuss these options with your healthcare provider, as they can provide guidance tailored to your personal health needs and condition.
