Abstract

A strain of streptococcus salivarius, recognized in a throat culture because of its inhibition of the growth of a species of Corynebacterium, was studied in vitro to determine its antagonistic effects agains various other bacteria. It was found to be inhibitory to anaerobic Gram-positive cocci, streptococci belonging to Lancefields groups A, C, F, and G, and Corynebacterium diphtheriae, C. hofmanii, and C. xerosis.
