Background

Ginsenoside Rf (Rf), a protopanaxatriol-type saponin mainly found in Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer has drawn significant attention in recent years due to its diverse pharmacological activities.

Purpose

This review aims to systematically consolidate current knowledge on Rf, focusing on its structural features, content quantification methods, and isolation and purification techniques, delving into its wide-ranging pharmacological actions.

Methods

Relevant keywords were used to search databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and CNKI to collect and integrate Rf-related research data.

Results

Through summarizing the existing research progress, we found that Rf has pharmacological effects such as neuroprotection, cardiovascular regulation, analgesia, anti-inflammation, immunomodulation, antitumor activities, and metabolic regulation. This mini-review also delves into the pharmacokinetics of Rf and the potential for future studies, intending to offer a comprehensive insight into Rf and its possible application in medical and pharmacological domains.
