Our research group revolves around the efficacy and safety evaluation, phytochemical characterization of indigenous Indian medicinal plants for practical applications towards alleviation of diabetes for the growing diabetic population in India. The increasing challenges associated with the medicinal plants geared me towards exploring the application of the AYUSH guidelines approach for screening of medicinal plants and isolating biomarkers/lead molecules for metabolic diseases for promoting Indian traditional medicine Our research group is actively conducting extensive research on the potentials of Aloe vera extract and other medicinal plants and their bioactive constituents in the alleviation of diabetes. Further profiling and identification of bioactive fractions responsible for the antidiabetic potential through pancreatic islet cell regeneration are being carried out in animal models as well as in different cell lines. These studies will further add value to the product which could be used in developing an Ayurvedic nutraceutical product or supplement for the alleviation of diabetes. In addition, our research group is also conducting research on the potentials of Encapsulation of bioactive constituents with different matrices for stability studies. These studies with encapsulation could be used for the incorporation of bioactive compounds which can be used in the formulation of a nutraceutical product/s appropriate for the various applications in the food industry.
