Full professor at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), Monique Lacroix was the first to develop a water-insoluble milk protein-based packaging film, which was one of Québec Science’s ten discoveries of the year in 1999. A leader in the food sector, she leads a research team to develop biodegradable packaging and cold decontamination processes to eliminate pathogens, ensure food availability, and reduce food and plastic packaging waste. She is a member of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO/WHO) expert committee and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) research networks on food safety and the development of irradiation-biodegradable packaging. Fellow of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST) and of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), Laval University awarded her the Grand Diplômé des Remarquables prize in 2021 to recognize the importance of her professional career and her social commitment.
