M. Cardelli is Staff Biologist at INRCA-IRCCS, Advanced Technology Center for Aging Research (Ancona). He is also lecturer of "Epigenetics and Advanced Molecular Biology" at the University of Camerino. His main research interest is the study of the genomic variation associated with endogenous retroelements in the human genome, and the study of its possible involvement in aging, cancer and age-related diseases. He developed new methods to study the genetic variability associated with retrotransposable elements, and contributed to analyse the genetic factors associated with human longevity and age-associated diseases. Dr. Cardelli is now responsible of the INRCA-IRCCS operative unit in the European Genmel project (started in 2015) on the genetics of melanoma, where he is conducting the whole genome assessment of somatic mutations induced by retroelement insertions in a wide collection of melanoma cases. M. Cardelli has a wide experience as collaborator in research projects Ministry of Health and E.U. ("GEHA Genetics of Healthy Aging" European Project, FP 6). Dr. Cardelli is Member of the Editorial Board of Scientifica (Hindawi Publishing Corporation) for the section "Genomics".
