Minaleshewa Atlabachew

Prof Minaleshewa Atlabachew is a full Professor of Analytical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, Bahir Dar University. He is also Head of the Central Laboratories Management Unit of the Blue Nile Water Institute and the Department of Chemistry of Bahir Dar University. He contributed several analytical methodologies for characterization of bioactive compounds from natural products, synthesized materials for water treatment technologies to remove bacteria, heavy metals and organic substances. He is also involved on plant metabolite profiling together with chemometrics modeling for tracing their region of origin. He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, under the ‘Future Leader in the Field’ scheme. He has been recognized for his Analytical Chemistry Training Partnership with Pan African Chemistry network (PACN) through the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). He is a local GC-MS trainers’ volunteer group recognized by PACN-RSC. Currently, he is involved in project entitled "Development of drinking water purification device for rural communities using nanomaterials and available natural resources. He is also working as a Co-PI: A UK funded project on MillNETi: Millets and Nutritional Enhancement Traits for Iron bioavailability, a UKRI GCRF programme on biofortified millets in Ethiopia and The Gambia. So far, He authored more than 50 peer-reviewed original research articles.
