Xuan Zhang

Dr. ZHANG,Xuan is a tenured professor and the founding director of the Clinical Immunology Center of Chinese Academy of Medical Science, while serving as the vice president of Beijing Hospital, National Center of Gerontology. Professor Zhang holds a medical degree from Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), followed by specialty training in internal medicine and rheumatology at its affiliated hospital, PUMC Hospital. From 2001 to 2003, he underwent a postdoctoral research fellowship training at the Autoimmune Branch of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, NIH, USA. He has taught at his alma mater since 1997, gradually rising in the ranks to his present position, to which he was appointed in 2005. Author and co-author of over 300 peer-reviewed scientific papers,including Nat Med,Nat Immunol,Nat Genet,Nat Biomed Eng,Nat Aging,Nat Commun,Sci Transl Med, Sci Bull, Cell, Cell CB,Immunity,PNAS, Ann Rheum Dis, et al,that have been cited over 22000 times, Professor Zhang is a multi-awarded investigator with a focus on clinical and translational research of rheumatic autoimmune diseases,especially systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. His leadership in national projects and innovations in targeted immune treatments has made significant contributions in advancing China’s treatment standards of rheumatic disease to international levels. Zhang's work are recognized with top medical awards and play a leading role in lowering disability and mortality rates of rheumatic diseases in China. He currently serves as a standing council member of the Chinese Academy of Medical Science and a review board member of the National Science Foundation of China, and the Clinical Immunology Committee of International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS). He is also the vice President of the Chinese Health Association, the President of Rheumatic Branch of Chinese Association of Geriatric Research, the President of Rheumatic Branch of Beijing Medical Association,the Director of National Standardized Rheumatic Diagnosis and Treatment Center, the Leading Scientist of the National key Research &Development projects, the editor-in-chief of《Aging Med》and《Chinese Journal of Medical Frontiers》, an associate editor of《Clin Immunol》《Sci China Life Sci》《Int J Rheum Dis》et al, and sits on the editorial boards of《Curr Opin Immunol》《Rheumatology》(former),《J Autoimmun》,《RMD Open》,《Chin Med J》and《J Clin Rheum》et al. He is also actively involved in other academic activities, including reviewing grants and manuscripts for numerous international foundations and other top-tier journals including theLANCET, NEJM et al.
