Chronic Progressive External Ophthalmoplegia

Chronic Progressive External Ophthalmoplegia (CPEO) is an eye disorder typically appearing in adults aged 18-40, characterized by a gradual loss of strength and control in the eye and eyelid muscles, leading to eyelid drooping and difficulty moving the eyes. It often manifests as a feature of mitochondrial diseases and can sometimes occur as part of broader syndromes, such as Kearns–Sayre syndrome, although it may occasionally result from other conditions.
