Supplement testing/ the Wild West industry
Hi all!
Trying to find out which brands are TRULY certified as not only containing what they claim to contain, but also contain highly pure products. Tested and verified by a reputable source.
Can you tell me which brands, or which testing laboratories to look for.
Note: I live 6 months in Asia, 6 months in Europe, so answers that correspond to theee would be helpful. (But I can access north american brands once or twice a year)
Thanks for any articles or related info. Looking forward to your experiences.
When it comes to finding supplements that are tested and verified for their contents and purity, it's important to look for products tested by reputable organizations. Here are a few key certifying bodies and testing labs that you might consider:
-
ConsumerLab.com: This organization conducts independent tests on health and nutrition products, including supplements, to determine whether they contain what they claim and whether they are pure1.
-
NSF International: Offers certification that ensures supplements contain exactly what the label states. Their certification also involves testing for contaminants1.
-
U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP): USP sets public standards for the quality of medicines, food ingredients, and dietary supplements. Products verified by USP must contain the ingredients listed on the label and must not contain harmful levels of contaminants23.
These organizations have rigorous testing standards and are often recognized internationally. While many of their certifications are more common in North America, they are recognized across the globe. Therefore, when purchasing supplements either in Asia, Europe, or elsewhere, looking for these logos or certifications can ensure you’re buying quality-assured products.
It's worth mentioning that supplement manufacturers must adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) established by the FDA, which aim to ensure the quality and purity of supplements2. Still, the presence of additional seals such as those from the organizations listed above can provide an extra level of assurance.
