Exploring Supplements for Muscle Locking and Irritability Issues

A user seeks advice on supplements to help with frequent muscle locking and irritability, sharing past experiences with beef liver and LoSalt. The assistant suggests magnesium, Vitamin B complex, and balanced electrolytes, emphasizing the need for professional consultation to address potential deficiencies.

  • Any supplements for muscles that lock up frequently accompanied by irritability?

My muscles lock up after a few hours at work and also I get irritable during this time. Things that have helped in the past was eating beef liver, also using LoSalt in my water. The LoSalt in the water was great but then I feel like it started to throw off my electrolytes and give me a short temper at the end of the day. However I felt like the LoSalt in my water was first thing ever to really hydrate my muscles and eliminate fatigue. After using LoSalt in my water for about two to three weeks I started breaking out pretty badly on both my forearms. I had to stop it due to how bad the breakouts were getting. Natto and magnesium and Gingko seem to help with the back locking up but the Gingko started to give me flat affect so ive stopped that recently. Any help or theories?

  • For managing muscle cramps and irritability, several supplements can be considered based on research and individual experiences:

    1. Magnesium: This mineral is crucial for muscle function and relaxation. Magnesium supplements are generally used to prevent muscle cramps, although evidence suggests they may not provide significant relief for muscle cramps in every scenario12. Given your experience with muscle locking, magnesium could still be beneficial in maintaining normal muscle function2.

    2. Vitamin B Complex: Studies suggest that Vitamin B complex can aid in reducing the frequency, intensity, and duration of muscle cramps, especially in conditions like nocturnal leg cramps in elderly individuals3. This could be beneficial for overall neurological function and mood stabilization, potentially addressing irritability.

    3. Electrolyte Balance: Since LoSalt provided relief initially, but later led to skin breakouts, it indicates an issue with electrolyte balance. Consider an electrolyte blend that balances sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium for hydration and muscle function without adverse effects. Overuse of any electrolyte can lead to imbalances that could affect mood and skin health.

Since irritability and muscle cramps might relate to nutritional deficiencies or imbalances, consider consulting with a healthcare professional to assess your specific needs and to ensure a tailored supplement regimen. If any supplement causes side effects like skin breakouts, it's important to reevaluate its dosage or combination.
