Exploring Gut Health Solutions for Chronic Fatigue and Candida Overgrowth

A user discusses their journey through various diets to improve Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, seeking advice on gut health tests and supplements like probiotics, digestive enzymes, and antifungals. The assistant recommends tests and provides supplement options to support gut healing and address symptoms.

  • I need help
I started carnivore in April and did pretty well. In June and July I added fruit back in but still stuck to carnivore. The last 2 months I started the GAP diet. I was initially doing all this to cure Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I thought healing my gut would help heal that as well. My symptoms did get worse for a period of time especially neurological. I'm on week 8 and my chronic fatigue is worse then it's ever been. I'd like to continue to heal my gut and kill off candida but I need another way.

Does anyone have any suggestions or even gut health tests they recommend to get done

  • To improve gut health and potentially address Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and candida overgrowth, you might consider several supplement options and tests that are often discussed in this context. Here are some supplement suggestions to consider:

    1. Probiotics: These are beneficial bacteria that support gut health. They help maintain a healthy balance of gut flora, which can be crucial for digestion and overall immune function.

    2. Prebiotics: Non-digestible fibers that feed beneficial gut bacteria. They can promote the growth and activity of probiotics already in the gut.

    3. Digestive Enzymes: These supplements can aid digestion and help break down food more efficiently, which might be beneficial if you experience digestive issues.

    4. L-glutamine: An amino acid that is often recommended for gut health due to its role in repairing the gut lining.

    5. Antifungal supplements: Such as caprylic acid, oregano oil, and garlic, which are commonly used to address candida overgrowth.

Historical and contemporary evidence support the use of these supplements in promoting gut health1.

For gut health testing, the following tests are often recommended to understand your gut microbiome and potential issues better:

    1. Comprehensive Stool Analysis: Provides insight into your digestive function, intestinal inflammation, and levels of beneficial and pathogenic bacteria.

    2. SIBO Test (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth): A breath test that identifies bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine, which can contribute to digestive issues.

    3. Candida Antibodies Test: Detects antibodies to candida in blood, which can help in identifying an overgrowth.

    4. Food Sensitivity Tests: Identify foods that may trigger adverse reactions and exacerbate gut issues.

Consulting with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen or testing is essential, especially given your existing health conditions. If you have a healthcare provider, they might be able to suggest appropriate tests based on your specific symptoms and history.
