Supplement reviews?
What's the best source for unbiased lab testing on supplements to find out if they are what they say they are, and are the correct dosage and not contaminated etc. I'm seeing some sites that require you to pay to see the tests. I want to be able to make an informed decision about what I buy. Or if someone has an account to one of these sites and wouldn't mind looking a couple things up that would also be greatly appreciated via PM.
To ensure that supplements are what they claim to be, are free from contaminants, and contain the correct dosages, it's important to rely on unbiased, third-party testing. Here are a few reputable sources and approaches to consider:
-
ConsumerLab: This is a well-known resource for supplement testing and reviews. It provides detailed reports on a variety of supplements, checking for quality, purity, and label accuracy. However, access to their comprehensive reports generally requires a subscription.
-
NSF International: NSF provides certification for dietary supplements, ensuring they meet strict public health standards. You can check for NSF certification on supplement labels as an indicator of quality.
-
U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP): The USP is another trusted authority that certifies supplements. Look for the USP Verified Mark on products, which indicates that they've met stringent testing and auditing criteria for purity and potency.
-
Labdoor: This company provides independent analysis of supplement contents and ranks products based on the accuracy of their labeling, purity, product safety, nutritional value, and efficacy. While some information is free, more detailed reports may require payment.
-
Examine.com: While not a testing lab, Examine provides in-depth research summaries on supplement efficacy and safety, which can complement data from testing labs to give you a comprehensive view of the supplements you're considering.
Unfortunately, I can't access subscription-based services or provide access to them. For detailed test results, you may need to subscribe to some of these services. However, relying on certification marks from organizations like NSF and USP is an effective way to verify supplement quality without needing to review individual lab reports.
