Periodontal disease
Periodontal disease, or gum disease, encompasses inflammatory conditions affecting the tissues around the teeth, with its early stage known as gingivitis causing swollen, red, and bleeding gums, and its more serious form, periodontitis, potentially leading to gum recession, bone loss, tooth loosening, and tooth loss. Poor oral hygiene is a primary cause, making the condition largely preventable.
